Embracing color

When I choose yarn for my knitting projects I tend to lean to the earthy browns, greens, and blues.  And my projects are typically one color of each, not all colors together.  Lately, however, I've been drawn to brighter colors and color blends. It's been fun to experiment with color.  

I'm embracing color in my newest cabled beanie.  It's a simple and fast knit and the fit is great for my smaller head (I chose the S/M cast on). You can find the pattern on kanitted.

If I get lost in the woods, I think I'll be easier to find now. :)

I can see a rainbow

It's been raining here in the Pacific NW for 4 days straight now.  I'm not complaining, but I am reminded this is the reason it stays forever green here in our neck of the woods.  All this rain and the cold (I forgot to mention the cold, didn't I?) makes me homey.  Half of my waking hours are spent cozied up in a warm corner.  This makes for perfect knitting weather!!  Last night I finished filambulle's Noro Kureyon hat and I love LOVE it. It's simple and beautiful.  And what I love most about it is that I can have a rainbow wherever I go.  How wonderful is that??!

I am now a big time fan of Noro Kureyon.  It's hard for me to shell out more than $5 for one skein, but Noro is so worth it.  I plan on knitting up a few more of these hats. I used Noro Kureyon color 170.  Here is what it looked like as a skein:

I knit it up using size 7 circs and size 6 DPNs.  I also began the decrease at 5", but next hat for me I may go a wee bit longer.  I have a small noggin'. Wearin' a rainbow is a fun time guaranteed. 

Just a few things Friday

So, yeah, yesterday I got my first speeding ticket in 10 years.   $93.  Ouch. Washington State doesn't have driving school to "erase" your infraction from your driving record, but you can request a deferral.  I did that and fingers crossed I practice good driving behavior for the next 7 years (You can only request 1 deferral every 7 years).  Not a highlight to my day, but it is something I better remember.  And it is kind of funny that my Wordless Wednesday was a picture of slug and my title was "Taking it slow."  Um, not really leading by example, eh?  

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Lattes are helping me get over the fact that summer really is gone.  I was not looking forward to summer's end, but a cup o' pumpkin goodness sure helps.  A whipped cream topping helps too.

I finally finished knitting a little new baby gift for my friend's daughter. At least the cooler weather is snuggling up to my knitting crave.  What baby won't look cute in a hand knitted beanie and booties?  I found the beanie pattern here on Ravelry. The booties pattern I found here and ohmygosh it was the most simple and quick bootie pattern I've found yet. I changed the pattern up a bit to match the seed stitch in the beanie.  I hope the newest little female earthling likes purple.

I'm all kinds of excited! I hope Baz does me proud.  I loved his Romeo and Juliet.

When you least expect it... Knit Happens

Knitting tends to come in spurts for me. It definitely is hard to find time to sit down with my needles and yarn when I am at the beck and call of two pint-sized Czars. But, after a sprinkling of Czar-free minutes here and there, I've been able to get this far with the Prickly Girl tank from Knitty:

This is only the front piece which isn't much considering my knitting will need to amount to this:

All in good time though. With the heat thick as caramel the kids are spending more and more time in the inflatable pool. The pool is a ghastly eyesore. But, if it gives me an hour or two every now and then to exercise the ol' fingers, then three cheers for bright blue plastic.
